It is one year since Dr Wahome Gakuru passed on. The visionary leader,the epitome of vision that Dr. Gakuru was . He was a leading force in the change agenda that brought about the current county government of Nyeri and played a significant role in advancing the Jubilee Government’s agenda across the country. He, together with his then Deputy Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga, advanced the three pillars of our vision – Development (Ukuria), Accountability (Uigiririki) and Transparency (Waragania) – that we had characterized our campaigns and resonated with the desire of the people of Nyeri.
Dr Wahome gave life to the renewal of governance reforms in the county. The burning desire to increase development budget absorption and deliver development projects with an impact across the county; the need to subordinate pride and ego to selfless public service; the realization that the citizen is king and his voice has got to be heard and footprints evident in the executive’s design of development programs. Though he is gone, his spirit lives – he taught us to dream big, fidelity, commitment and loyalty to government and to God.
When he took over as governor, H.E. Mutahi Kahiga reaffirmed his commitment to delivery of the vision that he and Dr Wahome shared. The delivery of the vision is premised on a unified leadership that works in consultation and harmony with the electorate. As we remember our beloved late Governor, the third Governor of Nyeri County, we reiterate that we will continue working diligently for the people of the great Nyeri County.
