Nyeri County Government Bans Selling of Mukurwe-ini Ceramic Soil

Nyeri County Government in collaboration with the National Government has moved with speed to stop the selling of Mukurwe-ini Ceramic soil to avoid exploitation by unscrupulous buyers.

This is after local leaders established that the buyers are purchasing the special pottery soil at a low cost of Sh 4,000 and selling it at Sh 40,000 to an Asian Factory in Isinya area, Kajiado County.

 Mukurwe-ini MP Hon Anthony Kiai and Rugi Ward MCA Hon Cyrus Ngure, met Nyeri County Governor H.E Mutahi Kahiga together with Nyeri  County Water and Environment CEC Fredrick Kinyua and Nyeri County Secretary Ben Gachichio at the Governor’s Office on Friday 13th July 2018 and agreed  the business should be stopped immediately until proper structures and measures are laid down.

The Governor urged the local sellers to be patient as the exercise will kick off immediately with all stakeholders including entrepreneurs, government officials, land owners and local leaders being involved.

He at the same time said the county government is ready to fund the establishment of a local School of Ceramics in order to train the local residents on the significance of it.
