Through the Governor’s Bursary Scholarship Scheme, 60 bright but needy students across Nyeri County will now benefit from this program, initiated by Nyeri Governor H.E Mutahi Kahiga.
These bright students, a boy and a girl from each of the 30 wards, totaling to 60 students under the Governor’s Bursary Scheme, received cheques from H.E Mutahi Kahiga worth 3.6 million shillings.
This program, a H. E Mutahi Kahiga initiative, will absorb 60 students annually and facilitate their secondary education through the provision of four years full bursary.
This venture aims at creating an adequate and quality pool of human resource that will drive and elevate the economy of the county and the country for these students are tomorrow’s leaders.
For fairness and transparency, members of the community, through public participation, selected the most needy and deserving boy and girl who had scored 350 marks and above in the K.C.P.E exams.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, 24th April 2019, the Governor promised to facilitate tertiary education for those students who will excel in K.C.S.E and urged parents to take a keen interest in their children’s lives.
He lauded MCAs for their cooperation and for supporting this initiative, noting that it’s through the good working relationship between the two arms of Government that the County was ranked position two in the recent Kenya Devolution Support Program’s (KDSP) ranking by the World Bank.
Recently, over 14,000 students from across the larger Nyeri County received bursary cheques. Governor Kahiga has increased the bursary kitty from the 40 million shillings previously disbursed,to 100 million shillings.
