Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga commissioned Gataragwa Farmers Cooperative Society milk Cooling plant in Mugunda Ward, Kieni West on 23rd November 2018.The milk cooler stationed at Bellevue trading centre was purchased by County Government of Nyeri and installed four months ago.Since then, the local milk production has increased from 1,000 litres to 1,500 litres daily.The management of the society is targeting 2,000 litres daily.
The society has since embarked on value addition and even selling cheese to locals.The Governor also promised to ensure veterinary officers are stationed at the area to help improve milk production.Meanwhile, Governor Mutahi also commissioned a cooling plant at Lamuria Farmers Cooperative Society at Kiawara, Mugunda Ward. Currently, milk production at the cooperative is at 600 litres and targets 1, 500 litres, now with the availability of the cooling plant.
Those who accompanied Governor included area MCA Hon Nderitu Rotex, CECs Muthui Kariuki (Infrastructure), Henry Kinyua (Agriculture), County Secretary Ben Gachichio, Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, Mugunda Ward Administrator Aisha Bakari and Kieni West Sub County administrator Patrick Wanjohi among others.
