Two national scout’s events are expected to be held in Nyeri County in February, 2019. The World Parliamentary Scouts Association said plans are underway to ensure that next year’s Founders Camp/ Founders Day is held in Nyeri town.
The Association Executive Director Poppins Misoi said chances are very high that the Kenya Scouts Association Patron who is also the Head of State H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta will grace the event in Nyeri Town on Sunday 24th February, 2019.
Nyeri County is the home of scouts since the founder of scouts Lord Baden Powell and wife Olive remains were buried in Nyeri town. Over 30,000 local and international scouts and girl guides are expected during the occasion.Various scout’s activities will be held in the county from 19th-24th February, 2019.
At the same time, Misoi who paid a courtesy call to Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga in his office said the association is also planning to hold the first ever Half Marathon in Nyeri in May, 2019.The director said this will be the first half marathon in Africa and first in Kenya where most of the scouts will participate. Misoi was accompanied by the World Parliamentary Scouts Association, Kiambu Chapter officials who included Kiambu County MCAs Hon Omondi Odhiambo, Hon Solomon Kinuthia, Hon Joel Munyua and Hon Simon Kamau.
Kiambu, Nairobi and Nakuru counties are some of the members of the association.
Nyeri Governor who is also the County Scouts Patron welcomed the association officials and said the County Government of Nyeri is very ready to host the two national events saying the county is very much capable.
H.E Mutahi Kahiga said his government will work hand in hand to ensure the scouts annual national celebrations are marked in the county and urged the school authorities to ensure the students are disciplined. Present also during the courtesy call included Youth and Gender CEC Esther Ndung’u, Tourism and Trade CEC Diana Kendi and County Secretary Ben Gachichio.
