Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga met with the Kenya National Music Festivals organizing committee members ahead of the national festivals which are set to start in August 2018. Nyeri will host the 92nd national festivals to be held from 6th to 17th August 2018 at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. Over 120,000 students from all over the country are expected to participate in the event.

This is one of the major events in the country involving students. Several halls at the university have so far been prepared for the event. The students will be housed in 37 institutions within Nyeri County.

The national and local organizing committee members led by the Kenya National Music Festivals Chairman Mr Peter Wanjohi paid a courtesy call to the Governor in his office to brief him of the progress so far. The team has since met the Nyeri security committee who assured them of adequate safety of the students. Nyeri Education CEC Margaret Macharia, the Chief Officer Simon Wachira and Nyeri County Secretary Ben Gachichio were also present during the courtesy call.

Preparations in the county have been in top gear with the county government re-carpeting the local roads and beautifying the town to ensure that the event is successful. The Chairman Wanjohi urged the members of the public to follow traffic rules as the security of students is vital.

Other national events expected in Nyeri are WASCO (Water Companies Sports Organisation) from 21st to 24th August and the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) conference that will be held on September 11th-13th.
