Department of Agriculture now has a new County Executive Committee Member (CEC) effective Friday, 03rd May 2019  after Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo presided over the swearing in of James Wachihi Muturi as its substantive CEC in the presence of H.E Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Deputy Governor Dr. Caroline Karugu and County Legal Advisor David Mugo.

Mr.Muturi who was approved by the County Assembly through a competitive vetting process will take office after the former CEC Henry Kinyua resigned after landing a job with an international agricultural firm. Robert Thuo, CEC Finance has been in acting capacity in the Agriculture docket following Kinyua’s resignation.

The 35 year old with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics and Resource Management and 11 years of experience, is an Agricultural Economist with vast knowledge in developing agricultural value chains, both in livestock and crops. Over the years, he has worked with several agribusiness companies and projects with his latest position being a senior Agribusiness Advisor and Head of training at Latia Agribusiness Solutions in Isinya, Kajiado.

While  welcoming Mr. Muturi , the Governor urged him to be keen in reviving a vibrant dairy value chain as he has experience in this field and also avocado farming to take advantage of the new China market that opened up after President Uhuru Kenyatta had an agreement with China.

Mr. Muturi who hails from Naromoru, Kieni Constituency, pledged his commitment to his new role saying he will transform this docket noting his interest in incorporating youth in Agriculture by introducing Agricultural Incubation Concept which integrates technology to agriculture.

Also present were Deputy Governor Dr.Caroline Karugu, County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio, County Executive Committee Members, Economic Advisor Ndirangu Gachunia and Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu.
