H.E HON MUTAHI KAHIGA, GOVERNOR, NYERI COUNTY
My Government has remained committed towards achieving the goal of a wealthy County with happy, healthy and secure people. In light of this fact, I am therefore pleased to call upon all stakeholders to join hands with my administration and the people of Nyeri County in this noble journey. The County Government has a clear vision for growth through partnership with the private sector; both local and foreign, and has laid and continues to lay emphasis on socio-economic transformation and the well-being of our people. Inevitably, realization of this aspiration requires a multi-faceted approach focusing not only on all sector priorities, but also on harnessing opportunities from untapped potential investment areas and resources; both natural and human, that the County is well endowed with.
There is no doubt that Nyeri County will be a central point of focus in the achievement of sustainable development goal (SDG) no. 17 that emphasizes on partnerships as an important pillar towards achieving sustainability. My Government has prioritized flagship development projects through the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) in tandem with Kenya’s vision 2030, positioning Nyeri as a crucial investment
destination. Nyeri county also has great investment opportunities that are aligned with the pillars of the big four agenda namely; food security, affordable housing, manufacturing and health care. The County is also one of the UHC program pilot counties which was rolled out towards actualization of SDG 3 on enhancing good health and promoting the well-being of the citizens.
The county government has come up with this initiative of developing a portfolio document to provide details of investment opportunities within the region. These opportunities, are supported by our trade licensing regime, development policies, political stability enjoyed in Nyeri and other business enablers in the County. My government has also been on the forefront in the fight against corruption, further creating a free and fair business environment. The government also plans to initiate additional investment incentives that will position the County as the ideal in investment destination.
Moving forward, we will continue to improve our road networks and other infrastructural developments among other investments enablers. My administration also continues to seek ways of improving the ease of doing business by leveraging on technological advancement. We have so far put in place systems that make it easy to pay for parking fees, acquire trade permits, and business licenses. Additionally, the county investment portal is user friendly and is linked to the single business permit. This portal allows entrepreneurs to list their business, apply for licenses online and make payments to the bank via money transfer services all at the click of a button, with a prompt feedback mechanism. My government is committed to providing all the necessary support and incentives to facilitate investment in all sectors of the economy in Nyeri County. I assure you of a healthy investment policy and an investor-friendly and resilient business climate. We endeavor to partner with stakeholders in mutually beneficial arrangements that will bring sustainable development to Nyeri County and to extend this engagement through collaborations and engagement as we position Nyeri region as the target for profitable, safe and secure investments.
Finally, and on behalf of the people of Nyeri, I wish to invite both local and international investors to explore and invest in the all the available opportunities in the County. ” Nyeri is open for business.”
DIANA KENDI TARICHIA, C.E.C.M TRADE, TOURISM, AND COOPERATIVES DEVELOPMENT
It gives me great pleasure to present the first Nyeri County Investment Promotion Profile. Nyeri County is continually reinventing itself by leveraging on its strategic position at the Central Kenyan Region. The County is gradually transforming itself into a hub for both local and foreign investments.
Nyeri has great strengths and advantages as an investment location, something that has always attracted investors; both nationally and internationally, especially in the agricultural sector. Various popular brands such as Coca-Cola, Toyota, the Davis & Shirtliff Group and the Highlands water company have also laid their foundation in the region. The hospitality sector is also flourishing in the region as Nyeri county is a centre of natural sites and phenomenon’s sandwiched between two water towers; Mount Kenya and Aberdares ranges. This strategic location makes the county a popular tourist destination which is a major boost for the hospitality sector. Some of the major hospitality investments include the Tree Tops hotel, Mount Kenya Safari Club, The White Rhino Hotel, Green Hills, and Chaka Ranch which is the biggest amusement park in Kenya.
As a government, we encourage, support, and advocate for a competitive, investment friendly business environment. This is achieved through a government that has a clear vision for growth through public-private partnership and investment for both locals and foreigners. Our goal is to achieve an increase in the number, value and nature of domestic and foreign direct investments in Nyeri. This objective is to be achieved by, among others, creating an enabling environment for investment, which involves having in place an appropriate legal and regulatory framework; a proper plan and strategy for marketing Nyeri as a preferred investment destination and enhancing Nyeri’s positive competitiveness and ease of doing business ranking.
Our commitment to the public and to you as our investor is to provide a politically stable and secure County with well-functioning institutions, respect for rule of law, zero tolerance for corruption, a rationalized and modern trade licensing regime and other business friendly regulations, reforms and policies. We invite you to engage us on possible facilitation and investment incentives.
