Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga has today officially opened the Corporate Governance workshop for Directors of the 5 water companies in Nyeri County at the Kenya School of Government Embu Campus. The five water companies in Nyeri are NYEWASCO (Nyeri Water and Sanitation Company) OMWASCO (Othaya Mukurweini Water and Sanitation), MAWASCO (Mathira Water and Sanitation Company), TEAWASCO(Tetu and Aberdare Water and Sanitation Company) and NARUWASCO (Naro Moru Water and Sanitation Company.)
In line with law requirements that the directors be taken through an intensive induction and training for an easier grasp and execution of their duties, the directors will be trained for three days at KSG on various pertinent issues as understanding Corporate Governance, their role in Public Procurement and Financial Management, legal frameworks and support for Water & Sanitation Services at National and County Governments under the Water Act 2016, role of the County Government of Nyeri and role of Tana Water Works Development Agency.
Core values such as transparency, accountability, responsibility and responsiveness, fairness, efficiency and effectiveness will greatly aid the directors in the disbursement of duty.
The Governor was emphatic about integrity saying this should be their guiding principle. He noted that the water companies are not profit oriented, rather, their driving force should be efficient service delivery to the people of Nyeri and ensure the provision of water is adequate.
Joseph Wachiuri, the Chair NYEWASCO while thanking Governor Kahiga for according the water companies support and inducting the directors,urged the companies to be committed to their roles and responsibilities
Director Kenya School of Government ( KSG Embu) Dr. Ann Kang’ethe urged the directors to uphold the highest level of integrity by doing what is right.
The Governor was joined by the Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, Chief Officers, Agriculture’s Ruth Mwangi and Education’s Simon Wachira.
