1 Kenya Agricultural Productivity and Agribusiness Project. (KAPAP)



Mathira East and West, Kieni West, Tetu and Nyeri South. Shillings 5,278,950.00 and 7,376,468.00 was utilized in the county for office operations and farmers grants respectfully. 5 value chains i.e. dairy, bananas, potatoes, fish and rabbits were prioritized by stakeholders and are being promoted. 10,709 farmers were reached through 349 groups. During the year, through support by the project, farmers in Nyeri County were able to generate an income of 132,000,000 shillings.
2 Agricultural Sector Development Support Project (ASDSP).



All Sub-Counties The county was privileged to host the National launch at Kabiruini show-grounds. A total of 4,089 farmers (1,227 female and 2,862 male) and 106 pupils attended the launch.

The program organizational and operational structures were put in place at the county level. Sensitization about the program to both the county steering committee and the sub counties agricultural sector heads was done.

The CCU offices were set up and furnished.

The county ASDSP value chains prioritization process was carried out. Three value chains i.e. Dairy cow, Irish potatoes and indigenous poultry were prioritized in a participatory stakeholder forum.

3 Njaa Marufuku Kenya Program – NMK All Sub-Counties 25 groups funded for up scaling to commercial agriculture with grants ranging between 120,000 and 150,000 shillings each.
4 Small Holder Horticulture Empowerment Unit Project (SHEP-UP) Kieni East and Kieni West 18 groups were trained and retrained on gender mainstreaming, cropping calendar, record keeping and marketing. 50% increase in production and improved gender relations. Appropriate road maintenance and soil fertility technologies were also covered.
5 National Drought Management Project. Kieni East 10 groups were trained on seed cereal banking and desert farming using upland arrow roots and sweet potato.
6 Water Harvesting Project Kieni West and East 2 water pans were constructed with Green house and seed potato bulking demonstrations one per district.
7 Traditional high value crops Project (THVC). Kieni West, Kieni East and Mukurweini. 128 groups benefited with assortment of seeds and planting materials.
8 Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Project (UPAP). Nyeri Central 8 Groups were formed and among them 2 on value addition, 5 technologies were promoted on food security and green house farming. One group established a tree nursery for environmental conservation.
10 Modernising Extension Agricultural Services(MEAS) All Sub-Counties The project is at its initial implementation stage and the piloting is being done in Nyeri and Machakos County. Sensitization of the County and Sub County Managers has already been done. Training of field Officers on5-Skills Set is ongoing. The involved staff have already been given a Laptop and a modem.
11 E-Extension All Sub-Counties This project is also at its initial stage and is meant to transform extension service provision to the use of IT. A TOT for the trainers has already been conducted and training of field Officers to man the desks is ongoing. The officers has already been provided with a laptop and are awaiting to be provided with a modem and a smart phone
12 Plant wise Mukurweini The project has already trained Officers who are manning Mobile Plant Clinics where farmers can come with their diseased plants for advice on action to take. The Project is also providing the infrastructure for the clinic namely a tent, a chair, data bank, a problem identification kit
